Metal Surface Finishing

Surface & Metal Finishing Services

A machined part is only as good as its final surface. Our comprehensive metal finishing services enhance corrosion resistance, improve aesthetics, and prepare components for their intended operating environment.

Anodizing & Electropolishing

Hard anodizing (Type III) delivers a coating thickness of 25–50 µm with hardness up to 500 HV, fully compliant with MIL-A-8625. Standard anodizing (Type II) is available in clear and colored variants for both decorative and functional surface finishing. Electropolishing can reduce surface roughness by up to 50%, achieving Ra ≤ 0.2 µm on stainless steel medical components in accordance with ASTM B912.

Plating & Passivation

Passivation follows ASTM A967 / AMS 2700 standards with citric or nitric treatment to enhance the corrosion resistance of stainless steel parts. Zinc-nickel and electroless nickel plating provide superior protection, offering salt spray resistance exceeding 720 hours per ASTM B117 specification.

Heat Treatment & Specialty Finishes

Professional heat treatment services include solution treatment, aging, and stress relief, with post-process hardness verified via Vickers and Rockwell testing methods. Additional surface options cover bead blasting, black oxide, and PVD coatings, catering to both cosmetic appearance and mechanical wear-resistance application demands.

Case Studies: Engineering Problems Solved

From concept to finished component, our metal machining capabilities provide the precision, speed, and reliability your products demand.

A downhole Inconel 718 valve needed corrosion resistance for harsh well conditions. 5-axis CNC machining (±0.01 mm tolerance) + nitric passivation (ASTM A967) achieved Ra ≤ 0.2 µm, meeting API 6A and ASTM B117 salt spray requirements.

An OEM reported premature wear (≤ 200 cycles) on a 7075-T6 actuator bracket. Our redesign of the anodizing schedule produced a Type III coating of 50 µm at 480 HV, extending service life to > 5,000 cycles in qualification testing — a 25× improvement.

A spinal implant needed a passivated, ultra-smooth surface for biocompatibility. Starting from a machined Ra of 0.65 µm, two-stage electropolishing (ASTM B912) reduced it to Ra ≤ 0.08 µm, paired with citric passivation (ASTM A967) for ISO 10993-5 compliance and stable tissue integration.
